gone to the dogs – Claudia Palazzo

Next Stages Bursary Artist: Claudia Palazzo

Between 2017 and 2018 Chisenhale Dance Space and The Marlborough Theatre are supporting the development of a full length solo work by CDS Artist Member Claudia Palazzo as part of CDS’ Next Stages project.

CDS and The Marly successfully partnered for the 2016 Small Spaces Commission Award. Palazzo’s stunning application to that programme caught the eye of the Marly’s David Sheppeard and together, CDS and the Marly have been working to enable Palazzo’s creation process.

Performance Space in Folkestone are also supporting the development of this work through a residency and mentorship.

About the work in development:

“gone to the dogs” is a dance about females, desire and violence in an urban environments.

I’m dancing because I don’t know how to talk about it. I wish to be more than a silhouette  even though sports wear is having a revival.

About the artist:

Claudia Palazzo is an artist working across dance, performance art, cabaret and film. Her work exists somewhere between the gallery and the nightclub.
“Im influenced by the urban landscape, territory and trends of East London where I grew up.  My work starts from dancing and physical experiences which tend to manifest joy and shame, activism and hedonism, desire and violence.
“In a time when we are required to constantly ask for permission I hope my work may speak to those who feel ridiculous, censored, and love a bass line.”
Claudia is currently working with artist Carlos Motta on a new work for Frieze 2017.
As a freelance dancer/performer Claudia spent a long time dancing in clubs and has worked for and collaborated with artists and companies such as:
Complicite, Ann-Liv Young,  Rosana Cade, Sinead O’Connor, David Hoyle, Duckie, GETINTHEBACKOFTHEVAN, Clod Ensemble, Eddie Peake, Lucy McCormick, Daniel Oliver, Tempered Body Dance Theatre, Danielle Russo, Tino Sehgal and others.
Palazzo is a member of Marisa Carnesky’s collective, works regularly with Duckie and has just finished a period of development with Franko B.
She is also a member of GAGGLE and Chisenhale Dance Space and has taught on various youth schemes run by Tower Hamlets and Hackney Councils.
