1) London Dance International 2010 – Here come the Women!

This year London Dance International (LDI) is celebrating female dance artists whose work challenges and extends the boundaries of dance and performance.

Dance has always been a collaborative art form and increasingly artists working in theatre, live art and performance are interested in incorporating dance into their practice. For 2010 LDI wants to offer a platform to explore what this means for dance in a practical, discursive and playful way.

Ruth Zaporah and Ivana Muller will each lead an intensive weeklong workshop and alongside this 3 UK based dance artists will curate a short residency to feed or invigorate their personal artistic process. Frauke Requardt, Wendy Houstoun and Fin Walker, have each responded to the open brief differently.

2) Ecovenue

Chisenhale Dance Space has been selected by the Theatre’s Trust to be one of the first ten London venues to go through the Ecovenue scheme.

Ecovenue is a European Regional Development Fund-backed initiative of The Theatres Trust, aiming to improve the environmental sustainability of 48 performing arts spaces across London. By proactively monitoring energy /water use and waste diversion, and through the development of environmental policies, procurement strategies and Display Energy Certificates, Ecovenue aims to help contribute to the Mayor of London’s target to reduce London’s carbon emissions by 60% from 1990 levels by 2025.

We are extremely excited about this as it gives us a chance to make some positive and long lasting changes, we will keep you updated on how we are doing from time to time!

Taking the architecture of a studio theatre and the conventions of a theatre show as its starting-point, One-Man Stage Piece invites both artist and audience to ask themselves a simple question: what am I doing here? Delicately poised between humour and uneasiness through the vulnerability of a man alone on stage, One-Man Stage Piece attempts to bridge the gap established by the architecture and conventions of theatre. One-Man Stage Piece is being developed through a series of showings around the UK and is supported by Chisenhale Dance Space. NOTE: this performance is starting early to allow people to see the England world cup match starting 7.30pm!
