Good Afternoon Members,

We have been beavering away here behind the scenes for the past few months at Chisenhale Dance Space and now have a very exciting update for you. There is quite a lot to get through so I have summarised below so you can draw out what you like the look of! We will be sending another email out in a month or so about some exciting commissioning opportunities here for the Autumn so please watch out for that. We have news on the following subjects...

1. Housewarming Residencies – Free Space for Dancers/Artists this summer

We have some free space over the summer and wanted to offer it out to dancers/artists to use. There is an e-flyer attached about what we are looking for. The deadline for applications is the 29th of June, so if you were thinking of doing some development over the summer this may be ideal for you!

2. LDI summer workshop – Simon Vincenzi

For the London Dance International Summerschool this year we have the fantastic Simon Vincenzi as our featured artist, he will be here for 5 days from the 13th of July and the workshop looks really amazing. He is also leading a talk on the 16th of July. GDA have invited Shobana Jeyasingh and Independent Dance have invited Diane Madden. You should have received the brochure by post, but the brochure is attached as PDF just in case. We would love to see some members here for our week!

3. New Website – Request for members info

We will be launching our newly designed website at the end of June, this will have up-to-date information on all that is happening at CDS. We would very much like to have a members page that holds a little bit of information on each of our members. What we are after is your full name, a website link and a sentence or so on what you do. If you wish to be included on the site then we really need to have your info by the end of next week, please send it to us. We will be able to access this page and update it from here in the office so can always upload new people or new info but of course it would be great to have people on there when we launch!

4. AGM

This years AGM is in September, The 15th September 09 @ Chisenhale from 6pm to be precise. We felt July was a bit too soon and that August is a bit of a funny month, so we have delayed slightly, also we will have a lot more to report!  Because of the huge changes that have come about from losing the ACE RFO status we feel that this meeting will be an ideal time to discuss what being a member of CDS should mean... so please come armed with ideas on this subject – a reminder and agenda will be sent out nearer the time.

5. NWNW Sociability Project at CDS – 25th June 6:30pm

The second member meet up, led by NWN member Tim Jeeves, is taking place on 25th June at Chisenhale Dance Space. The theme of the evening’s discussions will be looking at alternative approaches to art economies, and will explore ways in which artists can generate funds to support and create work. Kathryn Fry will be presenting her project At Home, which is an interesting response to raising income to create work. To find out more about her project please see http://www.switchperformance.co.uk/athome. Framed under the title of “Work like you don’t need the money...” - art markets, art funding and peer support the evening will use the Open Space format that was used, to great effect, at the last meeting. There is also an online forum space to discuss this area before and after the meeting.

6. Members Skill Set Research

We are hoping to be able to offer a lot more artists support in the coming months and would like to have a much better idea on the skill resource we hold within our membership. Knowing more information around what each of the members can offer to other artists would really help us utilise the skills of people who have a connection to the space. If you wish to be included in our research please send me a short break down of things you could offer to other artists such as mentoring, business advice, critical feedback to work (what type of work), your teaching skills,  etc, so that we can include members in projects CDS run in the future. Or a CV if you think this would be easier for you.

7. Facebook and Danceuploaded.tv

We have a group on Facebook, it’s quite small at the moment but it is always a good way of getting information on events and news to people quickly... So if you too are on Facebook please join – just type in Chisenhale Dance Space and it will come up... We do not send huge amounts of messages out, just when something really relevant comes up.

Also East London Dance, who we are partners with through the London Thames Gateway Dance Partnership, have a great new site for uploading dance footage onto, like Youtube but for dance! It is small at the moment but if lots of people put there work up there it has the capacity to become a really exciting place to share your work. The address is http://www.danceuploaded.tv/
