SHADE
5th March 2016
8pm – 8am, FREE

A night of important contexts, weird scandals and black protagonists in films and TV shows selected by Project O.

Have you ever seen a section labelled ‘Black Interest’ in a film shop and kept on walking? Ever asked the shop assistant whether they stock a certain film and been directed to the ‘Black Interest’ section? What does this even mean? AWKWARD.

SHADE is a free all night sleepover screening of films and documentaries exploring a cultural curation of mixed race/black experiences available to us in London in 2016.

After spending time working in the studio or cafes making and doing, we usually attempt to decompress by watching movies together. Sometimes it doesn’t work and only fuels the feelings of misrepresentation and invisibility that drive our work. Sometimes this is enlightening, sometimes frightening, often problematic and sometimes disastrously funny. Join us as we navigate where the mixed race/black voices are visible and what products are being produced.

There will be blankets and food provided (please make us aware of any dietary requirements you have) but do bring your own sleeping bags and pillows!

Doors 8.30pm, films start at 9pm.

Please RSVP to acontemporarystruggle@gmail.com by 9am on Tuesday 1st of March. Please be aware that this is a limited capacity, free event, so please only RSVP if you can definitely make it.
