Intimidated by Yoga? Not sure how to get started? This is a course for you.
Over 10 one-hour sessions we will break down the fundamental aspects of yoga, including breath, alignment, and the safe transition between postures. We will learn some of the most common standing, seated, and balancing poses, gradually building a sequence we can flow through. We will learn how to modify poses to fit your particular needs so that you may practice comfortably at home or feel confident in a mixed level class.
This course is about slowing down, moving the body with breath, gaining a little bit of strength and flexibility, and taking the time to ask questions and workshop anything you find confusing or difficult. We will sharpen our physical and mental awareness and have a few more tools we can use to balance ourselves when life gets hectic. Most of all, we’ll have some fun and try something new! See you on the mat.
About your Beginning Yoga Instructor:
Ashley Handel has been practicing yoga for 10 years, first stumbling upon it as part of her undergraduate degree in dance. Her passion is Vinyasa Flow, combining dynamic and strong postures with mindful breath and movement. She completed her 200-Hour Teacher Training with Naomi Annand and Adam Hocke at Yoga on the Lane, an unparalleled experience of deep learning and growth. Ashley believes the path to developing one’s yoga practice is through anatomical awareness of the body, an intimate relationship with the breath, and a curiosity and focus inward, cultivating a sensitivity to the subtle energies of the inner body. She is grateful for the opportunity to now teach this practice with vigour, compassion, and unwavering appreciation.
