Grappling for artists – workshop from Paniclab
Tuesday 2nd – Thursday 4th June
10am-1pm
This workshop will be an exploration into the physical language of Versus, a new show by Paniclab. In the form of a grappling technique class, participants will learn the basics in wrestling and jujitsu with mixed martial arts coach James Duncalf. Whilst studying the techniques and aesthetics of these fighting styles we will explore the language as a choreographic tool and question how liveness in competitive contact sports can be used as a method of improvisation.
We are looking for artists who are keen to work intensely physically, who may be already exploring the use of combat sports within or alongside their practice. Beginners welcome, but endurance required.
Participants must commit to all 3 days.
Cost for the whole workshop: £15
To apply, please email clara@paniclab.co.uk by 11th May, with a brief outline of your practice and experience, explaining why the workshop is of interest to you. Keep it brief, links and attachments welcome. Please make the email subject-line ‘Grappling Workshop’.
This workshop is supported by Chisenhale Dance Space through its Allotment scheme, funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
Should you have any access needs, please do let us know and we will see how we might be able to work with you to meet them.
