Hail the New Puritan @ Hackney Picture House

Did you miss seeing Hail the New Puritan as part of THE BIG 30? Well fear not, we have partnered with the lovely Hackney Picturehouse to screen it again!

Charles Atlas’s exuberant and witty Hail the New Puritan (1985-6), is a tongue-in-cheek mockumentary following legendary Scottish choreographer Michael Clark, then 23, through a day of rehearsals, interviews, parties – and astonishing dancing.

Backed by a raucous soundtrack from The Fall, Hail the New Puritan is character portrait turned fantasy voyage, a strange sideways glimpse into the mind of a man who defined the choreographic extravagances of a newly decadent London.

Screening is part of Chisenhale Dance Space’s Dance | Film Festival from 20th-23rd March 2014.
