About the artist
Hester’s solo practice involves making performance games, text pieces and low-key interventionist installations, which often play with language, simplicity, interpretation and some things about childhood, including mischief and confusion.
Hester’s background is as a director of experimental theatre and live art – particular interests lie in durational work, exertion and duress.
Hester is the Artistic Director of GETINTHEBACKOFTHEVAN performance company, assistant to Tim Etchells and Forced Entertainment, and is a freelance director. Recent project collaborators include Marc Almond, Mark Ravenhill, Elmgreen & Dragset, Eva Weinmayr and drag performance legend Bette Bourne. Hester is also half of the running/art project runclub.Hester is an Associate Artist at Firstsite contemporary art gallery in Colchester, working primarily with 15-25 year olds on bringing performance into galleries.
