Chisenhale Dance Membership is now closed for applications.

More information will be posted in the coming months, as we learn how the organisation will be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. See our latest statement here.

The information below reflects the previous method for joining our Membership, before April 2019.

Become A Member

Are you a dancer, performing artist, choreographer, director, educator, collaborator, improvisor, facilitator, maker, producer, curator, writer or something else experimenting with dance and body-centred performance? Have you thought about becoming a Member of Chisenhale Dance?

If you’re interested, have a look at what we are and we stand for, what we currently do, the benefits of Membership and who the other Members are, but note that we are an open community championing experimentation in all forms that is shaped by who the Membership is and what their work is. You can help push Chisenhale Dance forward.

We welcome applications from artists of all backgrounds and disciplines, and particularly encourage applications from people of colour. We welcome disabled artists in the Membership and our programme operates beyond our venue too, but regrettably our venue is only accessible via steps.

How To Join

Your application will be read by a panel of staff and current Members. Consideration for selection will prioritise experimentation and consider our ongoing process to better support artists form the Global Majority in our Membership. All Members are required to support the Membership Statement.

Since 2016, Chisenhale Dance Members are required to donate (minimum £20 per year) to the Allotment Fund, a pot reserved for Members’ proposals with bursaries awarded in the upcoming year.

Membership is renewed annually, running from April to end of March, with the financial year. Artists will need to renew each year if they want to continue. New Members applying in September 2019 are required to donate a minimum of £10 for the period up until end of March 2020, when all Members will have the chance to renew again. If your application is approved, after that you will be asked to make your donation. Applications are only possible during annual application windows.

If you have any questions regarding Membership or the application process, please email: or phone the office on 0208 981 6617. If this process or information is not accessible to you, please get in touch for assistance and to discuss an alternative format of application.
