This 10 week course is open to all experience levels and will be chance to practice/develop/begin/continue/expand/refine/explore/dismantle/rebuild your practice of improvisation. Through these sessions Lewys and Steph will share ideas and methods from their dancing to fuel your individual practice. We will also explore and develop structures through which to improvise together as a group, for an audience at the end of the course (week 10).
Lewys’ and Steph’s desire to run this course comes from a shared interest in attempting to resist judgement, so we might be able to best sustain our articulate and available moving self. How can we bring our whole selves to our dancing? Taking time to notice what we think about while moving/performing, in exchange with others. How can we take the weight off having to produce and instead practice being with and responding to the present moment (and end up ‘producing’ anyway). We will start from what’s there and see where we go.
The sessions will be split into a structure of solo movement exploration in the first hour and in the second hour we will explore scores for performance. Performing for each other and developing structures together.
