This coffee morning will invite us to reflect on our personal relationship to penetration, and to share a larger conversation around power and exploitation within dance and performance.

We will consider the ways penetration is used by the patriarchy to dominate and control, as well as discussing ways of subverting the heteronormative roles in which these power relations play out. How can we queer notions of penetration?

We cannot talk about power and penetration without consent coming into the conversation. Using the consent checklist created by Meg-John Barker we question – who is permitted to give consent? How can we create environments where everyone feels that they can give consent? How can we create spaces where saying ‘no’ is acceptable?
