Creative Lab: Film and Dance Performance

Led by Jo Cork

Chisenhale Dance Space | Performance Studio
Sunday 9th September | 3-6pm
£12 / £8 CDS Members

After a successful workshop last Autumn, Creative Lab – Film and Dance Performance returns to CDS for another facilitated lab to enable play and exploration for film makers, dancers and choreographers.

This 3 hour workshop will begin with activities to help tune our sense of vision and explore ways to frame what we see and what we want to see, and will draw attention to the choices we make and the artistic intentions driving those decisions. It will then continue as a Creative Laboratory in which participants will work individually or in small groups playing with filming, choreography for camera and projection to explore how these elements of practice might impact the work they wish to make or are interested in.

Throughout, we may create mini-forums in order for participants to discuss and reflect on others’ and our own thoughts and findings to create an environment of exchange and development. The foyer will be available to continue these conversations after the workshop should participants wish to talk a little longer. The studio and building itself and the surrounding areas (weather permitting) will be available as spaces in which to play and explore… CDS is situated close to the canal, Victoria Park, Mile End Park and various other interesting spaces!

Please bring your own devices; cameras, camcorders, or camera phones – and any other equipment you may wish to use. There will be a small number of iPads available for those who may not have smart devices or their own cameras. In addition, there will be a projector available (along with a VGA lead and flash adapter), a Mini-HDMI/HDMI cable to 3RCA cable, and a small projector screen. Depending on the compatibility of your devices, it may be possible to play with live projection should you wish to do so.

This workshop is open to those interested in working with film, dance, video and performance. Please bring layers to adjust to the temperature of the studio as you work.

Don’t forget to book your ticket to see Calibrate – A Screendance Installation on 7th September – Gather some inspiration then come and have a go yourself.
