A curated evening of queer artists working with music & dance, offering intimate glimpses into each artist’s unique sphere of sound & movement.
Soaring, atmospheric and full of left turns. Vocals soaring over a bed of strings, visceral beats and gut-churning sub bass. Twisted, contorted bodies writhing. Physical and alive. With performances by Magnus Tait Westwell, Bianca Scout, Samir Kennedy, FAUCI and illyr.
illyr is a London based, queer, POC multidisciplinary artist, singer, director and choreographer. DragonT, created by Lewis Walker, started as a fundraiser project for People experiencing homelessness, It now takes form as events, an alter ego and a performer. Lewis and illyr recently co-hosted the DragonT Fundraiser for Stonewall Housing and The Outside Project.

This is a free event taking place during Open Weekend. Each year, Chisenhale Dance Space, Chisenhale Gallery and Chisenhale Studios open the doors of our shared building for a free weekend of open studios, tours, exhibitions, performances and events. More information about the full programme will be announced soon.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
illyr is London based, queer, POC multidisciplinary artist, singer, director and choreographer. By dissecting his own experiences in an autobiographical process of insight his work explores desire, emotional exploitation that questions the role of the viewer, the artist, and the wider emotional landscape between entertainment and voyeurism. Most notably he choreographed Goldfrapp’s music video ‘Systemagic’ which gained over 1million views on YouTube and reimagined this for BBC’s Jools Holland. Named in Dazed 100’s list of the most influential talent of 2017 he has collaborated with REMEMBER YOU WERE MADE TO BE USED, Cotweiler, NTS, Dazed, Random Acts and Rebook. As a performer he has worked with Vivienne Westwood, Holly Blakey, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Theo Clinkard, Maxime Doyle, Theo Adams Company, Bunny Kinney, Rambert Dance Company and appeared in Love magazine, Rebook Classic, Beauty Papers and Boys By Girls.
Lewis Walker, also known as DragonT or Xavia, is a queer, London based, Artist, Contemporary Dancer and Ex GB Gymnast. They competed as an Acrobatic Gymnast for GB from the ages of 14-21 and now have moved into the creative industry. They’ve danced for Dazed Beauty, Burberry, Gucci x Dazed, Holly Blakey and Lee Cooper 2020 Campaign. They recently performed ‘Smoking areas’ at The Ministry of Sound in collaboration with Hannah Perry for Draf art. Lewis’ art looks at how their past has generated and created false perceptions of reality and by how unfolding their sub-conscious, they can be conscious. They explore the diversity of having queer identity and how suppression of self created queerphobia.
Magnus Tait Westwell is a Scottish-born interdisciplinary artist, and Young Associate Artist with Sadler’s Wells. His most recent commissions have been shown at ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event), Sadler’s Wells, The Silver Building, King’s College Chapel and on BBC4.
SAMIR KENNEDY IS A BRITISH/ALGERIAN INDEPENDENT DANCE, PERFORMANCE AND SOUND ARTIST BASED IN LONDON. AS A PERFORMER HE HAS WORKED WITH, YVONNE RAINER, LUCY MCCORMICK, FLORENCE PEAKE, COLETTE SADLER, JOE MORAN, CHARLES LINEHAN, PABLO BRONSTEIN, THEO CLINKARD, FRANKO B, RAHEL VONMOOS, SIMON VINCENZI, AND ROBERT CLARK PERFORMING THESE WORKS IN BOTH HIGH PROFILE AND UNDERGROUND SPACES ACROSS THE UK AND INTERNATIONALLY. AS A MAKER HE HAS PERFORMED HIS WORK IN THE NETHERLANDS, SWEDEN, GERMANY, AND THE UK. HIS WORK CAN MANIFEST AS VIDEO, SOUND, CABARET/CLUB PERFORMANCE, DURATIONAL OR INSTALLATION BASED PERFORMANCES AND INTERVENTIONS. OR JUST A GOOD OLD SHOW.
FAUCI is a multidisciplinary artist whose main practices consists of dance & music performance, choreography, music production and experimental styling. FAUCI’s practice is improvisation-based. FAUCI unites their practices through spiritual relevance to them.
Bianca Scout is an experimental musician and dancer. Their performances and records tread a hazy line between song and collage, where the focus is surrendering one’s self to imagination and spiritual potential. Welcomingly unnerving, Bianca scout addresses the non – addressed and societal under-the-carpet issues of our lamenting souls.
