Body Double is a workshop that explores subordination as a way of temporarily freeing ourselves from the need to produce in isolation. The pressure to produce work with a legible “hook” has altered our capacity to centre experimentation within making processes. This workshop proposes a momentary submission to the practices of the other via imitation and interpretation. How can we discover new aesthetic angles through what is lost in transmission? As a shortcut into this, we’ll be introduced to and channel the practices of one another, to discover how ‘copying’ allows us to access a space of aesthetic experimentation, an unfamiliar realm. In this workshop, we will talk, move and write. There is no need to prepare beforehand, nor an expectation of what constitutes a practice – it can just be an idea, a gesture, a way of seeing.
