WTF Thursdays: Mind the Gap – Open Mic Night

An evening of improvised performances with an open mic twist.

Mind the Gap is coming to WTF Thursdays with a special Open Mic Night edition.

A mixed bill night of improvisation, spontaneity, and experimentation. Open to all styles, genres, mediums of performance from dance to comedy to performance art.

All performances must be improvised/spontaneously created/freestyled/etc.

The evening will be jointly curated by Théïa Maldoom and Sam Burkett, but in true open mic fashion, a limited number of spots will be reserved for performers to sign up on the night!

About the Hosts

Théïa Maldoom (she/they)

Théïa is a dance artist. Recently, they have been movement directing for musicians such as The Last Dinner Party, performing solo improvisations incorporating movement and voice and producing ‘Mind The Gap’, a mixed bill, improvised performance night.

Movement improvisation is core to their practice; listening to their body/mind, sensing relationships with their surroundings and playfully exploring interests, impulses and imagination.

Sam Burkett (they/them)

Known for being both highly creative and extremely sweaty, Sam’s work runs the emotional gamut from happy to sad to hungry to gay. Their work has been shown in theatres across the UK and in the US, and their solo show, Crop Tops Make Me Feel Vulnerable, won the Best of Anything Goes Award at the 2018 Houston Fringe Festival.

As a movement director, Sam specialises in working with comedians: helping them to develop their stage presence and physicality and giving them tools to develop new material and engage audiences. Sam also runs movement workshops across London for improvisers, stand ups, and other comedians who want to connect what they say and what they do on stage.
