Zebra Crossing: A movement workshop for children
Facilitator: Shakti Orion
Sunday 22 October
11am – 12:30pm | FREE
Join artist Shakti Orion on a dance-trip to Africa to discover Zebras, how they live and what do they do! We’ll get into our zebra camouflage to get deep inside the wilderness of Africa.
The workshop is appropriate for ages 4-10. Participants will have a focused warm up, explore the wilderness through structured movement and have creative tasks set to become the best zebras they can possibly be! And of course, we’ll cool down our zebras for a nice relax in the cool savannah grasses.
Children should wear comfortable, movement friendly clothing, and socks. No trainers are to be worn on the dance floor. Layers are appropriate for warmth.
Parents can take the opportunity of the workshop to explore Chisenhale Arts Place, tours occur on the hour of our partner studios.
Shakti has been exploring the zebra – in many forms – during her artists’ residency here at Chisenhale from September to October 2017. You can interact with her work on 21 October during her Open Studio event. Your children can explore movement in a safe environment
I am a choreographer, performance and visual artist, originally from Spain, and based in London for the last ten years. I studied at Trinity Laban Centre and at Goldsmith’s College. Over the last few years I have been working at the fringe of dance and visual arts; my practice moves between live art, dance, installations, video, photography, painting and collages. I also work as community dance artist in integration art projects. In my practice I have been exploring and rising questions about anxiety, existence/ mortality, identity and its ongoing fabrication.
